In 2019, Great Ormond Street Hospital Arts team (Gosh Arts) commissioned Filament to create a piece to celebrate the opening of their new Sight and Sound centre of excellence, opening in the former Italian Hospital building on Queens Square. Part funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the piece will celebrate the hospital’s founding by Giovanni Ortelli in 1884 and its history as a place of healing since that time. Drawing from our research in the archives of both Camden and the Order of St Vincent and St Paul and our interviews with the local Italian community as well as staff currently working in the specialisms of sight and sound, Ospedale will celebrate the past and future of this wonderful building. Although delayed by the pandemic, we hope to share excerpts from Ospedale next Spring as part of a digital offering.
